Beethoven - Cello Sonata N3 op.69

Beethoven - Sonata №3 for cello and piano. You can download the PDF sheet music Beethoven - Sonata №3 for cello and piano on this page. Sonata No. 3 in A major op. 69 (1808)
  1. Allegro ma non tanto
  2. Allegro molto
  3. Adagio cantabile. Allegro vivace

The "A major Sonata" for cello and piano occupies an intermediate position between the two sonatas of Opus 5 and those of Opus 102. This work boasts an absolutely "classic" balance of the temperament of early works with the profundity and aloofness of the late sonatas. In terms of formal structure and detail the "A major sonata" conveys a masterly balance but both virtuosity and artistic solemnity are also perfectly portrayed in the work's "message". The work is divided up into three fast movements, whereby the last movement is preceeded by an adagio opening - the length of this section (eighteen bars) prevents the section being considered a movement in its own right. The "A major sonata" begins surprisingly with a cello solo but otherwise the first movement is a regular sonata form movement in which both instruments are perfectly equal. A bizarre scherzo in A minor with a syncopated principal theme follows and after the instruments'shaded unisono, a spirited final movement finishes off the piece.
