Conus - Violin concerto

Conus - Violin concerto. You can download the PDF sheet music Conus - Violin concerto on this page. It was at the height of his friendship with Rachmaninov that Conus gave the 1898 premiere of his Violin Concerto In Moscow. It was hardly unprecedented for the movements of a Romantic concerto to segue into one another both Mendelssohn and Bruch had successfully welded opening and slow movements together in their respective E minor and G minor violin concertos. However, Conus's solution is rather closer to the Lisztian ideal of a near-continuous structure, in which certain motifs recur throughout the work. As in Liszt's Piano Sonata, the central slow movement emerges as a cessation of hyperactivity - almost as an interruption - with the faster outer sections relating strongly, both emotionally and thematically.

One of the leading violinists of his generation, Conus came from a musical family that included pianists Eduard (his father) and Lev (his brother) alongside his composer brother Georgi. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1888, winning the coveted Gold Medal and the devoted support of Tchaikovsky. After brief spells playing in orchestras in Paris, Cologne and New York, he returned to Russia, where he struck up a close friendship with Sergei Rachmaninov, with whom he performed chamber music on several occasions, also advising him on his orchestral scoring for string instruments.
