Hummel - Adagio, Variations and Rondo on Russian themes for cello op.78

Hummel - Adagio, Variations and Rondo on Russian themes for cello op.78. You can download the PDF sheet music Hummel - Adagio, Variations and Rondo on Russian themes for cello op.78 on this page. Hummel is a composer whose musical reputation has ridden a roller-coaster over the years. A revival of some of his music recently suggests that the truth lies somewhere in between. He was born in that bordertown now known to the Czechs as Bratislava, the son of Johannes I lummel, director of the Royal School of Military Music. That institution closed down in 1785, and the elder Hummel—his son already a piano prodigy--moved to Vienna, where he became music director of the suburban Freihaus Theater, scene of the premiere of Mozart's Zauberjlote. Hummel took the boy around to Mozart, who, with the understanding that he would not take him on as a pupil, agreed to listen to him. However, young Hummel's performance so charmed him that he took him into his own home until 1788. This cello composition of Hummel is the great masterpiece of cello repertoire.
