Kodaly - Sonatina for cello and piano
Kodaly - Sonatina for cello and piano. You can download the PDF sheet music Kodaly - Sonatina for cello and piano on this page. The Sonatina for Violoncello and Piano was originally conceived as a movement of the Sonata for Violoncello and Piano (Op. 4) which appeared in 1909 as a two-movement work. Sometime later the composer intended to add one more movement to it. This is what Zoltan Kodaly wrote to the editor on March 10, 1964: "I intended to add a third movement to my Sonata in two movements, but this did not come off. My style had undergone such changes that I was unable to recapture the mood of 1909". For that reason the composer preferred to see this new movement published аs an independent piece; in that same letter he suggested calling it "Sonatina". This cello Sonatina is a highly poetic work in the national Hungarian idiom which is present in its expressive melody, its original rhythmic patternя and improvisatory episodes. The expressive potentialities of the violoncello, especially its aptitude for cantilena, are expertly utilised. Its artistic qualities are sure to win for the Sonatina a place of honour in the concert and pedagogical repertoire for this instrument. |
