Scriabin - Etudes for cello and piano

Scriabin - Etudes for cello and piano. You can download the PDF sheet music Scriabin - Etudes for cello and piano on this page. Scriabin's early works belong to the world of Chopin and Tchaikovsky, and with the fifth piano sonata from 1907 he is looking into the future. But he lived to be 43, and while his European counter-part Arnold Schonberg would explore new harmonic systems and composition techniques for another forty years, Scriabine's experimentation with theosophy, mysticism, symbolism, synesthesia through fragrances and colours were left unfinished.

The etudes presented here illuminate Scriabine's direction as a composer. He wrote the C sharp minor etude in 1887 at the age of 15. This was published in 1894 along with two other pieces as op.2. The romanticism of the C sharp etude contrasts with op.65 from 1912, which was reviewed at the time as having a 'horrifying, perverse and sacrilegious' use of intervals. By 1912 he had completed his last orchestral work, Prometheus. He wrote the twelve etudes op.8 at the age of 22, some of which he included in his St. Petersburg debut the following year. Number eight is a tender song for his first love Natalya Sekerina, while the last study, no. 12, could easily be considered his own Revolutionary etude. The etudes op.42 were created in 1903. The style is still rooted in tonality but with an increase of chromaticism and metric complexities. At this time he was an established solo pianist and composer, having written two symphonies, a piano concerto and four piano sonatas. The short, nervous etude op.56 from 1908 was published along with the orchestral piece Poeme de l'extase.
