Denisov - Concert for viola and orchestra (1986)

Denisov - Concert for viola and orchestra (1986). You can download the PDF sheet music Denisov - Concert for viola and orchestra (1986) on this page. Dedicated to Yury Bashmet. Edison Denisov, one of the most distinctive, and interesting Soviet composers, is widely popular with the listeners at home and abroad. Among his works there are operas "L'ecume des jours", "Four Girls", ballet "Confession", ten concertos for various instruments, chamber instrumental compositions. Edison Denisov was the first composer of the "middle generation" (as those born around 1950 were described when they became known) to seek and establish rapport with the Western avant-garde while drawing on the largely submerged tradition of Russian Orthodox Church music and on folk material. Works with atavistic leanings such as the cantata Sun of the Incas and the Laments can be found alongside the Chant d'autonme and La vie en rouge, with their filigree sound patterns. These two strands are, however, structurally united by Denisov's characteristic treatment of textures, i.e. of individual parts and their interconnexions, priority being given to the melodic line.
