Khandoshkinn's Viola concerto was written in 1801 and it was the one of the earliest instrumental compositions by Russian composers. It was published by the State Publishing House, Moscow and it receives its first recording in this performance. Khandoshkin composed a great many works for string instruments, as well as for orchestra. The majority of these compositions remained in manuscript; few of them have survived to this day. He was famous for virtuoso violin playing and remarkable performances.
