Stamitz - Viola concerto

Stamitz - Concert for viola. You can download the PDF sheet music Stamitz - Viola concerto on this page. Klengel viola part edition. The Viola Concerto no.1 in D major was written in 1774. The soloist has to prove his mastery of complicated passages, double-stopping, melodic passages in thirds and varied playing figures in this work. Carl Stamitz played this work often on his travels, because it was customary then for virtuosi to present their own compositions. The work was republished in 1900, and has appeared in several new editions. It was frequently wrongly listed as Opus 1 . The power of this music takes the listener's breath away. Stamitz contribute also to the development of a new musical form, mainly through a stronger characterisation of the second theme in the first movements of their works. This second theme emerges as a flexible melodic line on equal terms with the first theme. In addition the czech edition of viola part included.

Dynamic differences play an important part in this music. Composers had previously given no particular indication of dynamics, but these now assume a primary importance as a means of expression. The musical development is marked by sharp contrasts between a gentle piano and hefty fortissimo chords. Themes graduate from piano to forte - the famous "Mannheimer crescendo" This implies the end of the baroque terraced dynamic scale, which knew only a change of separate dynamic levels, and not a crescendo from one degree of volume to another.
