Composed presumably at Arnstadt about 1700. the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (BWV 565) is perhaps the most popular piece of Bach's organ music and of organ literature in general. It may be regarded as a model of organ improvisations of young Bach, embodying the proud soaring of the human spirit. Structurally, the work consists of Uiree sections: toccata, fugue and tocca-ta-like conclusion. The synthesis of youthful vigour and brilliant virtuosity, stirring profundity of idea and emotional tension makes for the complex and diversified musical dramaturgy of this monumental organ composition. This is a violin transcription of an original organ toccata.
