Debussy - Violin sonata
Debussy - Violin sonata. You can download the PDF sheet music Debussy - Violin sonata on this page. By common consent, Debussy's Violin Sonata of 1917 is one of this century's miracles. Poulenc - as we learned, a difficult man to please in regard to the solo violin -claimed that Debussy and Brahms were the only two composers since Classical times who had solved the problem of the equilibrium between the violin and piano and that "Debussy, somewhat breathless in his Sonata, has nevertheless succeeded in turning it into a masterpiece by sheer instrumental tact."

Debussy was a man whose time was running out when he wrote the Violin Sonata, his last completed composition. In the three years before his death from cancer in 1918, he planned a cycle of six sonatas in which he wished to present his credentials as a French artist ("musicien français"), the topography of this Sonata's title-page even recalling sonatas by French composers of the eighteenth century. |
