Concerning this Concerto, Milhaud writes in the third person: "In 1934, Milhaud wrote a Concertino de printemps for violin solo and chamber orchestra. It is a piece in one movement. It was written for the French violinist, Yvonne Astruc. Recently Milhaud was commissioned by two American pianists, Arthur Gold and Robert Fizdalc, to write a piece for two pianists and small group of instruments. This was the occasion for a Concertino d'Automne for two pianos and eight instruments, also in one movement.
