I. Allegro II. Rondeau. Andante grazioso
Unlike the G major Sonata, the Sonata In E flat starts in a typically Mozartean way: the main theme consists of an enthusiastic triad motif, followed by a soft and highly contrasting answer, partly diatonic, partly chromatic. The second theme seems to consist of a motive of only five notes, which are repeated three times; but at every repeat the lay-out Is different. The development section Is entirely thematic. Also, Johann Christian Bach has put his mark on a Mozart work: the Rondeau Is inscribed Andante grazloso and recalls several movements In the same vein in the piano sonatas by the London master. It does not mean, however, that this movement is Impersonal, as Is proved by the short coda, in which the composer seems to ponder very intimately on what he has just been saying.
