Allegro vlvace Andante sostenuto Rondeau: Allegro
K.296, written for his landlord's daughter in Mannheim: its Andante is taken almost note for note from a concert aria by J.C. Bach. This sonata might well be considered the link between the Palatine and the Auernhammer Sonatas. The naive charm of the second movement especially would easily fit into the environment of the Sonatas in G major and E flat major. As in the G major Sonata, the development section is again mainly of the 'fantasy' type. The final rondo contains a wealth of themes, which are arranged in a highly original way: the third appearance of the main theme is suppressed, while the second episode (in A minor) continues certain rhythmical patterns of the first, which hovers between G major and G minor.
