Unlike K376, the first Allegro Is built on continuous movement of triplets, which brings to mind two other F major works In which Mozart uses a similar device: the first movement of the Piano Concerto, K459 and the Allegro of the Sonata, K533/494. In these sonatas, much more so than In the Palatine Sonatas, contrasts of mood are obtained by the use of minor keys.

| Here, as well as In K380, the slow movement Is In the minor mode; It Is a set of variations on a very expressive theme in D minor. Whenever we see 'Tempo dl menuetto' as the title of a final movement, we expect either a rondo or a rather extended minuet with trio. Here, two sections of the minuet have repeats that are written out, as they are slightly varied and the violin joins In only at these repeats. At the end this whole complex Is repeated and followed by a coda. In between, we hear two different sections — one might say two trios, but the traditional repeat of the minuet after the first trio is left out. |
