The sonata starts with a broad and majestic Adagio In G major, which in appearance Is a sonata movement with two subjects, with repeat signs at the end of the exposition and with a development; however, when the recapitulation Is supposed to start, a new sonata movement begins, this time Allegro and In G minor. The conclusion of this sonata is formed by a set of variations, which Is built up more or less like that of K305: again, In one variation the violin is silent, in another the minor mode re-enters, there is an Adagio variation; but in the last variation, instead of changing the metre, Mozart changes the tempo, which becomes Allegretto instead of Andantino. A rather long coda brings the movement to its conclusion, once more piano and without any outward effect. |
