Paganini - Violin concerto N2 'La Campanella'

Paganini - Violin concerto N2 'La Campanella'. You can download the PDF sheet music Paganini - Violin concerto N2 'La Campanella' on this page. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra no. 2 in B minor, op. 7 »La Campanella«

  1. Allegro maestoso
  2. Adagio
  3. Rondo

Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 marked a further progress as compared with the First Concerto (1818). In spite of the fact that it was composed according to a scheme which is applicable to all his concertos (with a first movement which was conceived in the grand manner and gives ample room for development, a relatively restrained Adagio or Andante, in which the soloist displays all the singing powers of the instrument together with a feeling of melancholy, and a lively Finale modelled after the classic Rondó, where the two main subjects alternate in a variety of moods and forms), the Second Concerto is more economical and concise than the First, these aspects being somewhat unusual in a violin concerto from the first half of the Nineteenth Century.

The B minor Concerto was performed in Italy and throughout Europe. It is worth noting that the placards announcing the Concerto often made special mention of the Rondo with the obbligato bell which Paganini sometimes played as a piece by itself and which was no doubt a novelty at the time (much as the triangle in Liszt's First Piano Concerto; in fact, Liszt's inclination for such kinds of effects led him to transcribe the Rondó for piano as the fourth piece of his "Etudes d'exécution transcendante d'après Paganini", 1838).
