This beautiful and well-known composition by the familiar master - is still the sensible masterwork of composition for traditional violin. Oskar Rieding's Concerto in B minor proves the point eloquently and concisely; this three-movement work was designed to be played entirely In the 'first position', using just the two octaves extending from the violin's open G-string, and falling naturally under the hand in the most manageable part of the instrument. With purposeful outer movements framing a songful Andante, this work (published in Brussels in 1909) was among the most successful of Rieding's dozen or so tutorial concertos.
