Walton - Violin concerto
Walton - Violin concerto. You can download the PDF sheet music Walton - Violin concerto on this page. It was some twenty-three years earlier that to Walton's inexpressible delight the great violin virtuoso Jascha Heifetz had requested he write a concerto for him. Although progress was uncharacteristically fast to begin with, soon the old doubts began to return. Walton was worried by what he felt to be the work's intimacy of tone, and that in writing a concerto for Heifetz the solo violin line needed more dash and sparkle. Things hardly improved when having sailed to New York in 1939, specifically to present the completed score to Heifetz. the great man appeared more interested in pruning his roses! Needless to say, Heifetz went on to premiere this mesmerising work with the greatest distinction in Cleveland on 7 December 1939. Alongside those by Bartok, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Elgar, it is one of the twentieth century's great violin concertos.
